What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a holistic, natural therapy based on the principles that there are points on the feet and hands that correspond to all organs and systems of the body.

Reflexology is both old and new.  It has its roots in Egypt, China and India but it is only in this Century that it has found its way to the West. Eunice Ingham a physiotherapist developed this Reflexology further and mapped the whole body onto the feet and it is this foot map that reflexologists use today.  She is referred to in the West as the ‘Mother of Reflexology’

How It Works

The hands are used to apply pressure to the feet and sometimes the hands.   Subtle changes may be felt in specific points of the feet and by applying pressure on these points the corresponding part of the body may be affected in a positive way..  It helps to clear blockages, free up energy pathways and to restore balance.  Reflexology stimulates the body into healing itself.

Lynne sees many people with a wide range of conditions or no condition at all!  They simply want some ‘me’ time and to look after themselves.

.

Reflexology can bring relief to a wide range of acute and chronic conditions such as;

  • Digestive Disorders

  • Migraine

  • Sleep Disorders

  • Diabetes

  • Hormonal Imbalances eg. menopause, menstrual problems

  • Back Pain

  • Subfertility
  • Pregnancy

  • Arthritis

  • Stress Related Problems

  • Diabetes

  • Respiratory disorders

Who can benefit?

Reflexology  is suitable for all ages - you do not have to be unwell to benefit.  If well, it will help to keep you that way.  Many people use Reflexology as a way dealing with life’s everyday stresses and relaxing the mind and body.  Reflexology is now widely recognised for its benefits by many doctors and health professionals and is used in many hospitals.

Reflexology induces a deep state of relaxation as it is believed that approximately 75% of disease is stress-related this is a positive step forward in improved health and wellbeing.

What happens?

On the first visit a health and lifestyle history is taken and this first treatment will last about 1 ¼ hours.  Subsequent treatments last for 1 hour. Lynne will discuss with you how many treatments she thinks you may need and how often to have them. Many clients benefit from courses of six treatments, but for those with more deep rooted conditions further sessions may be required.

Shoes and socks are removed and the treatment begins by applying gentle pressure to the feet.  This usually feels extremely relaxing but occasionally there may be some tender areas.  If this is the case, pressure can be adjusted and a different technique such as linking can be used on the feet, so you do not need to experience any discomfort.   Most people love having reflexology, they find it to be very relaxing and sometimes experience a pleasant tingling sensation..
