Indian Head Massage

What is Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a combination of traditional Indian massage techniques mixed together with western massage techniques to provide a massage of the upper back, neck, shoulders, upper arms, head, hair and face.

History of Indian Head Massage

Massage has been an important part of Indian life and there are Ayurvedic texts dating back 4000 years, which feature massage.  Massage is exchanged within families regularly.  Head massage has been practised amongst women as part of their grooming routine for over 1000 years.  Barbers offered head massage as part of a treatment.  These skills have evolved over the years and handed down from generation to generation.  Indian Head Massage was developed and introduced to the West by Narendra Mehta.

The therapy is performed with the receiver sitting in a chair.  You do not need to undress but it is quite nice to use oils on upper part of the back. This can be done by removing upper body clothes and placing a towelling wrap around upper body.  A treatment is usually 30minutes or 45minutes and combines well with Reflexology and Reiki.
